Human Nature - DivX Version (Normal Quality), DVD (Good Quality), PDA Version
|
IMDB rating: 6.20 Plot: A philosophical burlesque, Human Nature follows the ups and downs of an obsessive scientist, a female naturalist, and the man they discover, born and raised in the wild. As scientist Nathan (Robbins) trains the wild man, Puff (Ifans) in the ways of the world - starting with table manners - Nathan’s lover Lila (Arquette) fights to preserve the man’s simian past, which represents a freedom enviable to most. In the power struggle that ensues, an unusual love triangle emerges exposing the perversities of the human heart and the idiosyncrasies of the civilized mind. Human Nature is a comical examination of the trappings of desire in a world where both nature and culture are idealized. |

Religious folk…Abrahamic religions preferably…?
Do you believe human beings to be part of nature of somehow outside of the natural order?
We are unique in that we are both physical and spiritual.

We fill no environmental niche. We fit into no eco-system. (There was no evironmental pressure causing ANYthing to evolve into a HIGHER form)
We merely consume from every other one.
We are either special made….or (as Agent Smith in the Matrix Movies surmised) we are a virus.
God made us for a special purpose, and made the rest of the world, for us.

1Cor.14:34-35 Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience as also saith the law.
35 And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.

Doc nailed it. God created all things and then gave us domain over it. We were expected to take care of it and carry on with the creation process. We instead, somewhat collectively decided to shake our tiny fists at God and do our own thing.
Not working out so well for us is it now>
God Bless

Well, I believe we are. I also believe (contra above) there is biblical support for the ideas that animals have spirits (if not souls). I don’t quite know what that means, but this is what I take it to mean– God’s fingerprints are everywhere; nothing stands outside the natural order; and nothing stands outside of creation that was created from nothing and for which we give thanks.
That we are to exercise "dominion" is just a fancy way of being granted the responsibility for stewardship for what it is we do to creation. Obviously we’ve done a lousy job.

we are a part of nature, affect and are affected by nature, but we are somehow above and beyond any other creature in nature. we create, love and process thought. we also have souls, or more evolved souls against other creatures. look around you… humans have created almost all of this. what have animals made? they are beautiful and deserve all respect, but we are above them are we not?

No separation.
Everything created and sustained by the same God.

I don’t think most Christians see themselves outside the natural order, if they truly understand the meaning of the word.
Catholics specifically do believe that we are part of a natural order, you can see this in the 13th century teaching of St. Thomas Aquinas-one of the most highly respected and most often used for teaching Church Dogma.
He states:
"Creatures exist in a series of grades. They participate and represent the goodness of God in various ways. In the world about us, there are three kinds of substances: mineral, vegetal, animal. These are all bodily substances. We find also in this world the human substance which is mineral, vegetal, and animal, and yet is something more; it is not all bodily; man has a spiritual soul. "

Could you clarify the question? The wording is awkward.

Created in Gods image and given dominion over ALL of creation
… Genesis1: 26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.
