Should he get this checked?
My partner has a mole on his chest-it is about the size of a matchstick head. He was playing with my little boy the other day and it got snagged. There is no blood or anything but it has gone a very deep red colour and almost flat.(it was a perfect round ball shape). He says it is still sore & has had a plaster over it since it happened. Should he get it checked or will it be okay just to leave it?
Thankyou very much.
it has now fell off????

Well if he is worried about it get it checked.

you know, my boyfriend actually has that too. he messed with it alot though and kept squeezing it till blood came out (nasty, i know). but his has gotten alot better and is almost gone and he didnt go to the doctor. however, your partner is not my boyfriend so it could be like skin cancer if you guys are out in the sun alot or if they go tanning. so, just to be safe you might want to get it checked out.

Trauma like this does NOT cause these lesions to become cancerous, which is a popular myth. However if you are concerned about any pigmented lesion it is a good idea to get it checked.

Zero Effect
Zero Effect (1998)

IMDB rating: 6.80

Plot: Shifty timber tycoon Gregory Stark (’Ryan O’Neal’ (qv)) is being systematically blackmailed and the use of regular private detectives have proved ineffective. Stark decides to call upon the services of the renowned, reclusive Daryl Zero (’Bill Pullman (qv)), supposedly the world’s greatest detective. Stark is very surprised to find himself discussing the intimate details of the case with Zero’s amiable associate Steve Arlo (’Stiller, Ben’ (qv)) who explains Zero’s propensity for never meeting with clients. Zero, using his two ‘obs’ of objectivity and observation, quickly discovers the identity of the blackmailer but continues the case in order to discover exactly why the seemingly ordinary Gloria Sullivan (’Kim Dickens’ (qv)) is attacking Stark in this fashion. As Zero becomes more engrossed in the case and, even worse for him, becomes personally involved with Gloria he is forced to decide between the blackmailer and his client!

Is dxm too dangerous if you have a heart murmur.?
if you dont want to read the background info (i think you should but its your call) scroll down to the question.

First off, I AM NOT INCOMPETENT. I REALIZE ANY DRUG CAN BE DANGEROUS, AND THAT I AM NOT INVINCIBLE. AND I MAKE THE CONSCIENTIOUS DECISION TO USE THEM. I AM NOT ASKING FOR DRUG HORROR STORIES OR ADVICE. I APPRECIATE THE CONCERN, BUT I HAVE ALREADY MADE MY MIND UP ON THESE SORT OF THINGS, AND DO NOT WANT TO ARGUE.

My apologies for my little rant.

anywho. i have dipped into the world of psychoactives on many occasions, and i consider myself moderately knowledgeable on the subject of a few particular drugs i have used. i am not claiming to be an expert or doctor or invincible, but i have done some research and experimented with a few of them.

i have taken dxm a few times and have had zero negative side effects. my buddy really wants to try it and i have told him i would be willing to trip with him, because i enjoy it, and to watch out for him because he does not know what to expect. HOWEVER. he recently told me he has a heart murmur. today he was talking about wanting to trip and i thought maybe his heart murmur combined with dxm in high(ish/er) doses could be straight up deadly.

i want him to have fun, but i obviously dont want him to die. so, with that being said,

if he takes dxm for RECREATIONAL purposes, in high enough doses to "trip" could his heart murmur cause severe negative side effects?

and by severe i mean life threatening, not vomiting or tachycardia, or anxiety, or mild side effects.

what is a heart murmur and will he die if he takes dxm?

THANK YOU.

sorry you have to read all this crap.

If his doctor says his heart is weakened by the murmur, then he shouldn’t do DXM, just to be on the safe side, because it could potentially affect heart rate/regularity and blood-pressure. Plus, if he had a bad trip the anxiety would be very stressful on the heart.

A word of caution: DXM is one of the more neuro-toxic drugs available. Like PCP & Ketamine, it produces a reaction that can cause irregular blood flow and heat management within the brain, leading to lesions of the temporal lobes (which are very important for understanding speech and time-related tasks). Read more about this on google, erowid, or elsewhere before you decide to take DXM again.

Check out Eraserhead. It took i think 5 or 7 years to make. It is David Lynch’s first real film, black and white, hard to choose a genre but it is usually horror - it is full of symbols and has never really been explained, and never will be. He started it when he was still studying and it was made literally on a shoestring budget.

You have to watch it with an open mind and you will feel strange after viewing it…..

And if you don’t think it’s the WEIRDEST movie that is great!

Plot: Someone’s trying to make the students sick at the upscale boarding school, Danforth Academy! Abby, Paige, Claire and Taylor, join forces to solve the mystery. When you write a novel, how do you go about all the details?
Okay, so I have some sketches of novels, they seem promising, but I do not know how to elaborate them. Dialogues do not seem so hard, but the minor details and minor events are simply absent. How do I come up with all those details? What do I need to turn a sketch into a full-scale novel?
Thank you very much! All the answers were helpful, it is hard to pick the best one, but I’ll try.

Break it down into steps. Keeping in mind where the characters/plot are ultimately going, ask yourself, what problems will come up on the way?

If my character Jack is hitchhiking across Rhode Island, what I have to do is break it down into steps. What specific events could make up a hitchiking trip? I’ll make a list of ideas of things that happen to him, problems he comes across (maybe he accidentally goes in the wrong direction. maybe he gets sick.). These little things are what a plot is made up of. Think up about a million of them, and then weed out all but the very best.

Just be sure you keep in mind where your story is headed. Don’t just go off in random directions just to fill paper. Each scene should show the reader something important about your character or themes or plot–preferably every scene should do double duty. It has to have a good reason to be there.

I have troubles with the details, too. I always see the scene playing through my head, but when I try to write it out, I miss a bunch of stuff, because I know exactly what is happening and I forget to explain. So I always go back and pretend like I have no idea what’s going on and add the detail.
*The Nerdy One* | Aug 13, 2009

An author see’s it all in their head. It forms as you type/write. You shouldn’t feel that much struggle, the story is there in your brain, you just need to unravel it.
Describing a building? Picture that building, for me I don’t get to choose the building, when I know how I want it to form it automatically does it. I can’t change what I want it to look like, I think and the details are right in front of me. All I have to do it type them down.
Winny L | Aug 13, 2009

just kinda write a bunch of little short stories about the characters and paint it together. the details put themselves in if you coax them enoguh. its all about the flow and polarity.
ArielSlayer | Aug 13, 2009

Write it in first person and then change it into third person, I find this the easiest way to go about description and not to overuse the words ‘he’ and ’she’.

So, get up of your butt, get a piece of paper and pen and walk into any room in your house. What do you notice first? The light shining on the shiny surface of the coffee table? Write it down. Take a note of everything you notice. Is your cat/dog sleeping on the bed/chair/couch? Does he/she notice your presence?

Just keep taking notes until you can’t anymore.

Now, go back to your computer and start writing a paragraph where your protagonist walks into whatever room you have just taken notes of. Use a thesaurus for a range of different adjectives, nouns and verbs.

One thing, don’t bore your readers with description. Same goes with dialogue.

Hope I helped a little :) I Must Be Emo

Well this is my story. It is DEFINITELY a rough draft so please don’t be too critical. Keep in mind I’m 11 and might now have the best vocabulary choices. So if there are any other word choices I could use, any places where I could write a few sentences more about, please help. This may be a sort of more mature topic for me but I know about it. And I am going to write more after, but for now I want it to be checked so I’ll have less to correct in the future. It’s just a short story for fun. Thanks!

They stare at her for a second and smirk, flipping their perfectly cut, styled and dyed hair. Jess looked at her lunch. Paper bag, sandwich and water. She looked at theirs. Chocolate covered strawberries, salad, vitamin water in a pretty silver bag, almost a purse. She tapped her fingers on the table to the beat of Welcome to the Jungle. The

Usual Suspects, The (1995)

IMDB rating: 8.70

Plot: After a waterfront explosion, Verbal (Kevin Spacey), an eye-witness and participant tells the story of events leading up to the conflagration. The story begins when five men are rounded up for a line-up, and grilled about a truck hijacking (the usual suspects). Least pleased is Keaton (Gabriel Byrne) a crooked cop - exposed, indicted, but now desperately trying to go straight. The cops won’t leave him alone, however, and as they wait for their lawyers to post bail, he is talked into doing one more job with the other four. All goes tolerably well until the influence of the legendary, seemingly omnipotent “Keyser Soze” is felt. Although set in the modern day, it has much of the texture of the forties, plus suspense, intrigue (a fairly high body count), and lots of twists in the plot.

Good Mafia/Mob Movies?
Hi, so far I know off:

1) Godfather
2) Godfather 2
3) Scarface
4) Goodfellas
5) Carlito’s Way
6) Casino
7) A Bronx Tale
8) Once Upon A Time In America

And a few others like Donnie Brasco, Mobsters and Untouchables, which I didn’t really like. I’m looking for movies made after the 70’s and not before. For the love of god, the only good mafia movie from the 70’s was Godfather.

Movies like The Usual Suspects and Pulp Fiction/Reservoir dogs don’t really count. I’m talking more about Goodfellas/Casino/Bronx Tale type mob movies.

Any advice?
American Gangster? Naah.. I’m looking for more italian then anything… Again, something along the lines of Bronx Tale/Goodfellas/Casino.

I watched a documentary on Discovery, Science or National Geographic about beauty?
A study was conducted and while beauty is in the eye of the beholder, it was found that certain symmetrical facial features or bone structures appealed to nearly everyone. That is, certain facial features makes one "pretty" to nearly everyone else. I wonder, has there ever been a similar study along those lines about music? Specifically classical music. Some prefer Wagner. Others prefer Chopin. Some really cannot stand Wagner and love Mozart. But it seems a larger majority likes Beethoven. Or should I say not just Beethoven but a "circle" of five" Beethoven, Mozart, Bach, Tchaikovsky and Wagner. Is there something in this circle of composers that each one wrote that is similar in structure? I am new to classical music so I do not have the vocabulary to fully express what it is I am asking. Am I trying to make something out of nothing? Are they simply the most prolific composers, end of discussion? Is there something in Beethoven’s 5th that appeals to the majority, or it a matter of exposure? Maybe its a silly theory but I theorize that maybe there is some form, structure, rhythm, combination of melodies, use of certain instruments that will appeal to the masses. If anyone knows of a study or discussion group, blog, or forum would you kindly provide me with a link? Dumb question? Sorry, but its been bugging me.
I only mentioned Beethoven because he seems to be the one everyone knows, from children to adults. Possibly due to exposure, education, etc. I do prefer Beethoven over the others, only to an nth degree. Maybe I should have called theses composer the "fab" five. I picked them off the top of my head because when I began this journey into classical music, these five seemed to always show up in posts. Please do send your email Alberich. Thanks

You’re making wayyyyy toooo much of it.

They were speaking of symmetry as perceived by sight.

Although classicism was, in Architecture, all about symmetry and pleasing balance of proportion, the idea but not the number or ratio theory behind that was not applied to music.

Mozart is rather well known for his phrases of uneven bar-lengths, five bars instead of four, often by the trick of an extension. Too much metric symmetry in music, or the number of bars, is deadening and dull to the senses. Ditto if a melodic line went up and then down to the same point by way of the same notes - basically what an arpeggio does.

The composers you list so vary in their subtlety, or lack of it, their aesthetic between flashy or discreet, that there is no pooling them together under one common factor of popularity.

I can’t abide Wagner, dislike most of Tchaikovsky, and truly love Beethoven but am not of that hero worshipping school of the Cult Of Beethoven, for example. I love a lot of music from a lot of varying periods, and that has a very wide range of time and styles.

Mass appeal? The obvious, the emotionally obvious, perhaps cast as ‘deep’ Mass Appeal is Andrew Llord Weber and Cats and Phantom of the Opera, not classical and pure crap (well-crafted crap) in the eyes and ears of many an adoring an knowledgeable classical fan.

Forget mass appeal. Classical music has never had a mass or populist audience and it never will.

best regards.

I agree with those who conducted the beauty study as far as facial appeal is concerned; it’s has definitely to do with the bone structure. When you appraise an individual taking into account their entire anatomy, then probably other factors would come into play.

Of all those great composers you’ve mentioned, my belief is that their appeal arises from their distinct individuality, not any shared commonality.

The one of the "circle of five" that you listed, whose music is most universally loved without a doubt is Beethoven. Why? At the moment I’m unable to offer a meaningful explanation; should I later, will return and edit.

The one of that "circle" which has the least universal appeal is undoubtedly my musical idol. Why? At risk of being "pooh poohed", I would submit:

(1) the complexity of his musical palette confounds many; (2) he wrote almost exclusively for the operatic stage; and unfortunately in one of if not the most unmusical of languages; (3) the sheer mass and length of his music-dramas, many are not willing to endure; (4) his harmonic style of never ending modulations with no resolution, is incomprehensible to some - I’ve read that the entire Ring beginning with the opening notes of "Das Rheingold", does not harmonically resolve until the final chords of "Die Gotterdammerung"((and then, only after around 16 hrs. and 4 days(evenings) later)); (5) Wagner in my perception is one of those "mystical" composers: i.e. Cesar Franck - so that if your psyche, soul, spirit(whatever) does not vibrate on a kindred level/plain/at the same rate, so that you can’t "get to where he’s coming from"——-suffice it to say, "That he’s not for everyone".

I can email you an impressive thesis in which the author claims his music is dangerous, and should be avoided: let me know if you’re interested(assuming you received my response email to yours?).

Most musical instruments are decidedly asymmetrical, or played asymmetrically

… I think upright pianos are generally symmetrically ugly, and asymmetrical grands beautiful.
